'''Origins''' '''The Gulliver Code''' originated in work for my PhD thesis, "Swift's Comic Flaw," submitted to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_College,_Dublin Trinity College, Dublin] in 1971. Along with my colleague Richard Evers, we have decided to build this online forum on The Gulliver Code. Over the next few years, we will be releasing solutions to the mysteries of Gulliver's Travels, as well as a history of cryptography, and the uses of the "ars magna" by Swift and his contemporaries. In my doctoral thesis, I attempted to play down the anagrams, while accepting them as a very probable construction on the part of Swift.
